Raised floor is a building material that creates a second floor surface on the reinforced concrete base of the building, allowing the space in between to quickly transport materials such as pipes, cables and ducts belonging to mechanical, electrical, ventilation installations to the desired point without the need for construction works that cause loss of time and money such as demolition and reconstruction.

Steel construction raised floor systems are generally used in places where flooring systems such as electrical and telephone cables, mechanical rooms, water and ventilation pipes pass. They are ideal systems for places that need to be kept away from water. It facilitates the laying of cables and pipes. By creating a raised second floor, it provides safety for materials that can be damaged by water. Raised floors are particularly useful for data centres and telecommunication facilities. Computer systems can sit on perforated tiles so that conditioned air is accessible to each unit. Equipment can then be designed to draw cold air from below.

Heating and cooling a building with a raised floor system is also more efficient. The empty space between the panels and the subfloor acts as a plenum chamber to distribute conditioned air evenly throughout the building. In addition, because the warm air rises, heating the building from the access floor space during the winter months is more efficient and effective.
