What Should be Considered in Storage Tank Production?
- National and international storage tank manufacturing procedures must be taken into account.
- It must be produced by a specialised team.

- The manufactured storage tank should be subjected to hydrostatic and dynamic controls by the relevant engineers before shipment.

How should storage tanks be positioned?
Wherever possible, storage tanks should be mounted above ground. The area chosen should not be left more exposed than necessary. Clearance should be allowed for the withdrawal from the tank of fittings such as immersion heaters and steam coils. In some industrial plants, such as steel mills and foundries, where tanks are located inside buildings, a tank room may not be required, but they should generally be located inside a tank room. The requirements of insurance companies and local authorities should be taken into account when designing these installations.
- Underground storage
Here an underground installation storage tank If this is unavoidable, it should preferably be housed in a specially constructed brick or concrete compartment, providing easy access to the drain valve and other fittings. Wherever possible, the tank compartment should be placed on dry ground and the finished structure should be waterproofed. To collect water that may enter the chamber in exceptional circumstances, a sump should be provided at one end on the floor of the chamber and the floor should slope slightly downwards towards the sump. The water collected in the sump can be removed using a semi-rotary pump. The bottom of the chamber should form an oil-resistant catch pit as in the more usual above-ground storage tank.
- Buried tanks
Buried storage tanks must not be buried directly in contact with the soil. Adequate corrosion protection must be applied to all external surfaces of the tank, fittings and pipework.
- Package space
Where overfilling or leakage of the tank would cause a fire hazard, damage property or contaminate drains or sewers, a bunded perimeter wall should be constructed around the tank. This should be of brick or concrete with an oil-proof lining and sealed to the concrete base below the tank supports. The capacity of the bund should be at least % 10 larger in area than the storage tanks contained within it.
The perimeter walls should be oil-tight and able to withstand significant fluid pressure in the event of overflow or other emergency. Permanent drainage should not be included in this area, but suitable facilities should be provided to remove rainwater that may accumulate. A sump and semi-rotary hand pump are suitable for this purpose.
